Chaperone and Parent Responsibilities
Parent Responsibilities
During a practice or competition the parent is considered responsible for the swimmer up to the time the swimmer is acknowledged by the coach. During practice or a meet the swimmer becomes the responsibility of the coach when the swimmer steps onto the deck.
- Do not be the cause for your swimmer not arriving at meets and practice in time to be on deck
- Treat all other swimmers, coaches, chaperons, parents, and officials with courtesy and respect.
- Support their swimmers’ efforts and achievements
- Ensure that their swimmer gets to practices and meets on time
- Leave the technical aspects of swimming to the coaches
- Keep informed of all Club activities (provided through e-mail, newsletters, bulletin board, meetings etc)
- Complete level 1 timer clinic and endeavor to achieve higher officiating levels
- Speak to coaches prior to or after practices, not while coaches are on deck
- Remain in spectator stands at a meet. Do not go on deck without the coaches permission
- Volunteer for an administrative position to support the operations of the Club
- Participate in LSC hosted meets and donate refreshments
- Officiate for at least two other meets throughout the season
- Advise coaches of meet participation by the required time
- Address coaching concerns with swimmer’s coach first before approaching the Head Coach
- Pay fees on time
- Participate in all fundraising activities
- Participate in all social activities
If you are travelling with your son or daughter on an out-of-town meet than the following duties as "chaperone" will apply. We expect a safe, courteous and respectful atmosphere on the road and in joining the team you have also agreed to help ensure the following apply.
Chaperones and Parents travelling with the team
- Accept the authority of the Coach and or Team Manager in charge of the meet
- Enforce LSC’s Code of Conduct
- Encourage good behavior of swimmers during travel and at the meet
- Be responsible for specific swimmers and to know where they are at all times
- Enforce lights-out/curfews schedules
- Ensure that all swimmers arrive at the pool or at their hotel at the appropriate time
- Monitor the behavior of swimmers staying in hotels to ensure appropriate behavior
- Ensure that all swimmers are properly fed and get their required sleep
