Chaperone and Parent Responsibilities

Parent Responsibilities

During a practice or competition the parent is considered responsible for the swimmer up to the time the swimmer is acknowledged by the coach. During practice or a meet the swimmer becomes the responsibility of the coach when the swimmer steps onto the deck.

  • Do not be the cause for your swimmer not arriving at meets and practice in time to be on deck
  • Treat all other swimmers, coaches, chaperons, parents, and officials with courtesy and respect.
  • Support their swimmers’ efforts and achievements
  • Ensure that their swimmer gets to practices and meets on time
  • Leave the technical aspects of swimming to the coaches
  • Keep informed of all Club activities (provided through e-mail, newsletters, bulletin board, meetings etc)
  • Complete level 1 timer clinic and endeavor to achieve higher officiating levels
  • Speak to coaches prior to or after practices, not while coaches are on deck
  • Remain in spectator stands at a meet. Do not go on deck without the coaches permission
  • Volunteer for an administrative position to support the operations of the Club
  • Participate in LSC hosted meets and donate refreshments
  • Officiate for at least two other meets throughout the season
  • Advise coaches of meet participation by the required time
  • Address coaching concerns with swimmer’s coach first before approaching the Head Coach
  • Pay fees on time
  • Participate in all fundraising activities
  • Participate in all social activities

If you are travelling with your son or daughter on an out-of-town meet than the following duties as "chaperone" will apply. We expect a safe, courteous and respectful atmosphere on the road and in joining the team you have also agreed to help ensure the following apply.

Chaperones and Parents travelling with the team

  • Accept the authority of the Coach and or Team Manager in charge of the meet
  • Enforce LSC’s Code of Conduct
  • Encourage good behavior of swimmers during travel and at the meet
  • Be responsible for specific swimmers and to know where they are at all times
  • Enforce lights-out/curfews schedules
  • Ensure that all swimmers arrive at the pool or at their hotel at the appropriate time
  • Monitor the behavior of swimmers staying in hotels to ensure appropriate behavior
  • Ensure that all swimmers are properly fed and get their required sleep
