Practice Guidelines
Practice time is essential to each swimmer's success.
It is important that swimmers attend workouts as often as possible, for a number of reasons.
First, swimmers who are serious about improving need to make a commitment to workout. Workouts prepare swimmers for meets and each workout should move them closer to their goal. Each missed practice is a lost opportunity for improvement. The season goes by quickly, so swimmers should make the most of it.
Secondly, there will be times swimmers can't avoid missing practice, such as illness or vacation or other conflicts. If a swimmer misses practices over and above those that can't be helped, he or she can miss a good portion of the season.
If swimmers make a full commitment to practice and work hard, they will have a very rewarding season.
The commitment that swimmers make will be matched or exceeded by the coaches.
The following guidelines are meant to enhance practice times. At practice:
- Be on time and prepared for a workout. Parents should aim for the car to arrive at the pool in plenty of time. IF you are late hurry onto the deck and see the coach to quickly get direction.
- Stay focused and follow the day's workout
- Pay attention and listen during the workout. The pool is very noisy and the need to focus is very important.
- Work hard at practice
- Do not take unnecessary time-outs
- Talk to the coach if you have a problem
- Be considerate of other swimmers in your lane
- Encourage teammates to work hard
- Practice pools safety and respects the pool and locker facilities
SWIMMERS MUST BE ON DECK AT THE PRACTICE START TIME. If you are on time .. you are late.
- Arrive in time to change
- Have your cap on and goggles ready to go
- Check the workout before the start of the practice for equipment requirements
- Take every opportunity to work turns and strokes
