LSC Swimmers and
Parents
What is a sprinter?
The reconized distances for sprint are 50m and
100m. All-out, pedal-to-the-floor, don't look back
racing. My line has always been .. 'breathing is essential for
life, not the 50 Free".
I have been plagued these past few years with a
growing number of swimmers who think swimming half the practice, at
half the effort because they are 'sprinters' is acceptable.
BTW - in our club you do every distance and every event.
When you are 16 and over we can start discussing a
pre-disposition. Indeed if you really want to be a
sprinter you increase your muscle mass, perfect your technique (you
only have 23 seconds to get it right), bump your anaerobic
capacity and soooo much more. You need to be pretty
tough, strong and determined to go fast for a short period of
time.
In the past LSC swimmers
have met IM stars Keith Beavers and Marianne Limpert.
Come
meet and hear a 'real' sprinter.
Richard
Hortness

really, really well. Following are Long Course times

Richard is working towards a berth in the
upcoming 2012 Olympics and is training here in Ontario (originally
from Alberta). His performance at Summer Nationals a month ago
says he might just be on track. You want more stats just go
online .. you'll find them.
