LSC Officials
All about Officiating
Our sport is unlike any other sport in that it requires every parent to qualify as an official to help run meets and competitions.
The Benefits of Working as an Official
First, there's no better seat in the house when you work on deck as a swim official. You have a great opportunity to watch your child and his or her teammates compete!
Second, it's a great way to pass the time. Sessions at meets average 4 hours. Your child may swim 3 or 4 times during that period. Many pools are notorious for being crowded and uncomfortble. Join us on deck, and the time will fly!
Third, you will be making a valuable contribution to the running of the meet. Meets can't happen without officials.
Lastly, it's fun. It's a great way to meet other parents and share the expeience of swimming.
LSC Parental Commitment
By joining LSC, you committed to:
- Each parent completing the Swimming 101 Clinic, qualifying you to work as a timekeeper or safety marshall at any sanctioned meet in Canada.
- Working a minumum level of sessions at LSC hosted meets. For 2010-2011, the family commitment is to work 6 sessions over 3 meets
LSC Policy on Meet Commitments
Each family must commit to the minimum number of sessions when we host meets. Each year the Official's Chair will designate the session requirement at the season's start.
The family commitment can be worked in any combination between two parents - for example, to meet the commitment of 6 sessions, one parent can work 5 and the other 1 session, or 4 & 2, or 3 & 3 of 6 & 0.
Swimmers and siblings over 14 are welcome to work as officials, but DO NOT COUNT towards the family commitment
We offer high school community hours from swimmers, siblings and friends over 14 years of age.
There is a $100 per session penalty for each missed session, but we want your body, not your money!
